Museum of Battles in More

Study the pace of history at the Museum of Battles in More, where you can see evidence from the World War II.

The Museum of Battles in More is located in a historic place — Sigulda protection line of WWII. Important battles took place here, in More rural territory, between the soldiers of the 19th division of the Latvian Legion and the Red Army during WWII.

The open-air exposition of the museum shows an old army tank, as well as other military machinery and battle items found in the battlefield. The above-ground bunker of the German army is also an interesting witness of history.

Authentic weapons and other evidence from the past are displayed inside the museum. Furthermore, there is also a guide who tells about the rough times in More and Latvia in general.

The Museum of Battles in More demonstrates also domestic items from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as hosts contemporary craftsmanship exhibitions. Unique souvenirs and meetings with their author are available there.

  • Entrance fee to expositions — EUR 3.00
  • Entrance fee to expositions for children above the age of 5 — EUR 2.00
  • Entrance fee for children of nursing age — free of charge
  • Entrance fee only to the open-air exposition — EUR 1.00
  • The entrance fee includes guide services. Language command of the guide — Latvian, Russian. If necessary, the guide may speak also English

Facts and figures

  • The battles in More lasted from 25 September until 6 October 1944.
  • The battles took place in Sigulda protection line positions hindering the Red Army from moving to Riga.
  • The first memorial exposition of the battles in More was created in 2002 by the former soldiers in order to remember the Latvian soldiers who fell in the battles.
  • The museum has developed owing to active involvement of the society, and at present it covers a larger period of time and many more heritage topics.
