Valmiera City Festival 2018

Celebration procession "Valmiera boasts", market of craftsmen and domestic producers, concert of the band "BrainStorm" , Don's performance, children's adventure parks - from July 27 till July 29, will meet Valmiera’s 735th birthday with musical, tasty, sporting, exploratory, cheerful and active activities.

The celebrations will begin on July 27 with an ingenious walk, learning the hidden "key words" in the city. The celebration will continue at the birthday party in the garden of Valmiera Youth Centre "Vinda". A good warm-up march and subsequent anniversary events will be walking along the footsteps of Valmiera boys and taking part in sports activities at the Valmiera Culture Centre Square. Even before the evening events, we invite you to visit the Valmiera Museum, where the opening of three exhibitions and an international joint project will take place. The festive lights on the July 27 twilight hour will illuminate on Valterkalniņš. There you will be able to enjoy the Valmiera Theatre actors’ dubbing legends, poetry and prose about Valmiera, the river Gauja and Latvia in the  audio project “Noskaņu upe” (The River of feelings).

On Friday, July 27, the Vecpuišu Park will have a free atmosphere, hosting “Harmonija brīvdabā” (Harmony Outdoors) with the band “Riga Reggea”, “Jūdas Graši”, “Dead City Holidays”, “Pisang Ambon”.

At the square near the Hanseatic wall will be a birthday concert with the participation of Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra and Jānis Strazd’s instrumental group, soloists Aija Andrejeva, Agnese Rakovska, Ieva Kerēvica, Igo, Ingus Pētersons and Atis Ieviņš. The guests and people of Valmiera will be congratulated with the concert by Dons, but the ball will be with the band "Mākoņstūmēji". At midnight from Friday to Saturday Valmiera’s birthday will be celebrated with a magnificent fireworks.

Saturday, July 28, will begin lively. Awakening festive atmosphere will ensure brass band, birthday’s rhythms "moving around" through the various streets of Valmiera. Craftsmen and domestic producers’ "River" will wander along Lāčplēša and Terbatas streets, while the Castle Square will be under responsibility of hostesses. At the Valmiera Culture Centre Square there will be an interesting time for families with children. Smaller town festival visitors will be able to participate in “Klucīšu dienā” (Cubes Day), but the outdoor areas will have different creative workshops, skill attractions.

For the joy of the soul there will be presented the concert of the Organ music at the St. Simon’s Church Latvian and foreign composers’ music “Tilti. Starp kontinentiem” (Bridges. Among continents.).

Chilling at the Vecpuišu Park will be inspired by Latvian cinema. There will be large-format outdoor games, traveling circus performances, moving images, various workshops, pony riding and many other fun events. At the same time, more agile, stronger and more active birthday place will be Valmiera Secondary School No 5 Sports Ground. There will be an opportunity to watch the exemplary demonstrations of sports organisations, to try out the amusements of Latvian Bungee jumpers Club, to make a contribution to Walmiera to regain the title of Latvia’s strongest city, to watch the “Greentrials” velo show, to turn on Orbitron’s swing, to meet the National Guard and to participate in other exciting activities.

On July 28 the waters of Dzirnavu Lake will start the traditional rowing slalom competition "Valmiera viļņo" (Valmiera waves). At night in the central square of the festivities, a concert and a cheerful party will take place near the wall of Hansa.

The band "BrainStorm" has also chosen an unusual place for the concert “Skārda bungu tūre” (Tin Drum Tour). An ambitious concert in Valmiera will take place on July 28 in Dīvaliņa meadows.

At the end of the city holiday, on July 29, people are welcomed for an ingenious walk. Valmiera St. Simon's Church will be open to the holy worship service. But those who want to spend the day actively, will be able to go on a family hike with a guide or within Valmiera try rogaining.
