Bioregion establishment in the territory of Gauja National Park

On October 25 Memorandum of Goodwill on the establishment of the first bioregion in the Baltics in the territory of the Gauja National Park were signed by 13 partners.

During the International forum "Mission: Establishing a Bioregion in the Gauja National Park" stakeholders presented actualities and justification of the necessity of establishing a bioregion. The covered themes: Establishing a Bioregion for Sustainable and Forward-looking Regional Development and The Bioregion: Benefits of Sustainable Resource Management.

Gauja National Park is the largest, oldest and best-known protected natural area in Latvia, which has long been known as an excellent scenic area with great natural diversity and rich cultural and historical heritage. Already today, the area of ​​organically certified agricultural land in the park is larger than the average in Latvia, and there are many small farms and companies working here that produce and process high-quality food, maintain the traditional rural environment, lifestyle and landscape. With the joint cooperation of all involved parties, we want to create a sustainable, clean, growth- and development-oriented environment - both for local residents and guests.
