Melnais Rock

The Melnais Rock (The Black Rock) is a sandstone outcrop on the bank of the River Brasla; the rock is overgrown with lichen and trees and it conceals several caves.

The Melnais Rock is around 180 m long and up to 12 m high sandstone outcrop. The name of the rock probably stems from the velvet lichen, which covers the rock.

At the foot of the rock there are three triangle-shaped caves, and the sandstone outcrop is divided by lateral ravines.

On the other side of the river there is the Baltais Rock (The White Rock). The Melnais Rock is best seen from the Baltais Rock (there is a trail leading from Brasla fish breeding farm) or while paddling in the river.

Take the trail on the left bank of the river in autumn or winter, when the leaves of the trees have fallen, or spring, when the trees have not yet come into leaves.

Free entrance.
