Latvia winemakers Festival in Straupe Horse Mail

On September 3, from 11:00 to 17:00 in the historic Straupe Horse Mail, Latvian winemakers will gather together. During the festivities there will be a tasting, a wine-making workshop, and wine will be made on the spot from the berries brought to visitors. The event will take place within the framework of the Straupe Slow Food Market.

Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, lilacs and even oak leaves! Fragrance and flavor nuances! All of this our Latvian winemakers can immerse in one small glass of wine! But how much do we know about the Latvian wine makers and do we really appreciate the fruits of our craftsmanship?
Slow Food Straupe organizes the first Latvian Winemaking Festival on the Vidzeme side to promote local wine-making traditions. The architectural monument was chosen as the venue - Straupe Horse Mail, where the Straupe Slow Food Market also found its place. The special steam for this place is given by the authentic paving stone that has been in the historical ensemble since the 18th century.
Attendees will be able to discover the secrets of this place not only leisurely taste more than 10 wines produced by winemakers. Practical tips for making wine at home will be provided by the Zilver Winery, therefore visitors are invited to bring forest and garden berries to jointly create a wine that will be able to drink on the next year's Vineyard Festival. The event will be attended by the legendary chef Martins Ritins, who will take care of the proper snacks. Thanks to the cooks Ēriks Dreibants, everyone will be able to experience the compatibility of the taste of wine and desserts. Enjoying the wine will be an option to supplement Slow Food Straupe cheese-dairy farmers.
Accordionist Kaspars Gulbis and his trio will take care of a special musical atmosphere. The event will be led by a journalist and blogger, Una Ulme. In addition to the events of the vintage festival, the Straupe Slow Food Market, which is the only one in the Baltics, complies with the requirements of the rules of the international organization Slow Food International and has become a member of the Earth Markets Alliance. This means that the products on the market are produced according to Slow Food's philosophy - it's a local, seasonal breed in good faith, saving nature and thinking about environmental sustainability. The Straupe Market has been awarded with the cultural mark "Latvian Legacy" for the restoration and preservation of market traditions.
