On 19 November, during a ceremonial event in Brussels, the EUROPARC Federation — Europe’s largest organization of protected natural areas — awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism certificates. For the first time, Gauja National Park also received the certificate at the European Parliament as a sustainable tourism destination in Europe.

The certification of a sustainable tourism destination is an internationally recognized tool that helps strengthen cooperation between local communities and management institutions, promotes thoughtful tourism development, supports the local economy, and protects natural and cultural values. The Charter also provides opportunities to learn from other protected areas across Europe and strengthens the region’s image as a responsible and high-quality tourism destination.

Organised by the Gauja National Park Tourism Association in cooperation with the Nature Conservation Agency and Ķemeri National Park.
