Summer Solstice Gauja National park Latvia 2026

25.05.2026
As the days grow longest and the sun lingers over Gauja’s ancient valleys, forests and meadows awaken with a special midsummer magic.

Summer Solstice in the Gauja National Park region is a time when old traditions, songs and firelight meet the mystery of nature — inviting everyone to celebrate the shortest night of the year through unforgettable events, rituals and experiences where legends seem to come alive.

June 20

Location: Mākoņi un māls | Clouds and Clay

In the heart of nature at Mākoņi un Māls, Summer Solstice celebrations begin with a truly special experience – the magical opening of a traditional black pottery kiln, where guests can witness freshly fired ceramics emerging from the flames. The evening continues with authentic Latvian midsummer traditions: decorating the homestead with flowers and herbs, weaving wreaths, tying Jāņi cheese and building the great bonfire together. As songs by the choir fill the air, visitors will gather around an ancient fire ritual before the night unfolds with dances, games and celebration beneath the midsummer sky. It is an opportunity to experience Summer Solstice slowly – through craftsmanship, nature and centuries-old traditions brought to life.
