The Līgatne Rock and Cave Trail of muddy adventures in the untouched vicinity of Līgatne rich in various rocks!

Līgatne Rock and Cave Trail will take you in the heart of nature which will surprise you with the diversity of sandstone colours and breathtaking sceneries.

Put on your rubber boots, receive a reflective vest and helmet, and let the extraordinary hike begin! Your feet will briskly stride through mud and gravel, meander along the paths of the thick forest and wade the restless river, which comes alive to demonstrate its power just like in a mythical story.

Fresh air, cool water, soft soil and exciting scenes — this will be your journey through the wilderness of the untouched nature.

Līgatne Rock and Cave Trail will take you to ancient caves waiting to be explored. You can visit the cosy Strautu ielas Cave, the beautiful Ķiberkalns Cave, Depo Cave and the endless Remdenkalns Cave. Due to the cold air in the caves, the ancient people often used them for storing paper, medicine and other valuable objects.  

 

Entrance fee

  • Cave visits must be previously booked as the caves can be visited only with a trained guide. Cost: from EUR 5.00 to EUR 7.50. Free of charge for preschoolers

Facts

  • There are 333 cave cellars and cave systems in Līgatne
  • During your trip you will see Remdenkalns Cave — the longest sandstone cave system in Latvia. It is 59 m long and consists of 28 cellars

Other information

  • The trail is available in the summer season only from May until October
  • The guided hike takes 2–3 hours. Shorter routes are available
  • In order to preserve and protect the environment, the traffic on the trail is limited to only two groups of 7–15 people a day
