With bog shoes through the Oleru bog

Formed over thousands of years, having accumulated various natural and historical evidences, bogs are an important part of our ecosystem.

They shine in golden sunrises and smoke mists in the evenings, although seemingly quiet and peaceful - the marshes are filled with life and reveal various natural wonders to the most observant. Sunday, August 28, at At 10:00 a.m. there will be a bog shoe hike in Oleru bog together with bog researcher, geologist and head of "Lakes and bogs research center" (EPIC) Ilzi Ozola. The hike will end at the historic Oleru manor , where the participants will study the peat and moss samples collected in the bog, as well as visit the owners of the Oleru manor - Kārļas and Ievas Zemīš.

The focus of the participants of the hike will be the Oleru bog and its natural values, learning about the importance of the bogs in our lives, and the nearby Oleru manor. Hiking with bog shoes will lead you along a bog route of about three km, which will be of easy difficulty and will result in pleasant fatigue and sweet sleep in the evening. We will go to the swamp and back from it on foot along a half-kilometer path. A total visit to the Oleri side with all the activities will take about five hours. To make the active part of the event enjoyable, we invite you to wear rubber or waterproof hiking boots and comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, as well as bring drinking water and some energy snacks for a moment of rest in the swamp.

The participation fee for the hike is 10 EUR for adults, and 8 EUR for pupils, students, pensioners and people with special needs. The hike is not suitable for people with mobility impairments. The participation fee of the event includes the rental of bog shoes, guide services, delicious soup, a tour of Oleru Manor and other surprises. The start of the hike at Oleru manor at 10.00 (GPS 57.8096, 25.3616).

In order to participate in the hike, you need to register in advance by calling 26332213, writing to e-mail tic@valmierasnovads.lv or coming in person to the Valmiera Tourism Information Center (Rīgas iela 10). The number of places is limited!
