The Virtual Tour of the park this time will take the place at the main object in the park – the Araisi Lake Fortress – unique settlements of ancient Latgallians dated to 8/9th–10th century. The type of settlement is unusual and so are the results of excavation. It provided quite a full picture of Latgallian material culture during that time, and partially also of their mental culture, and the idea was born of recreating the lake fortress as an open-air archaeological park.

Join us on the virtual tour! The museum educator Sanda will show you around the site wearing a reconstructed costume and showing replicas of objects and tools that were a part of the Latgallian day-to-day life.

Information about the Araisi Ezerpils Archaeological Park:

The Āraiši Ezerpils Archaeological park Visitor Center during its opening hours gives you an opportunity to visit a special exposition of the Araisi Lake Fortress and an archaeologist Jānis Apals.

When visiting the park, you will also find yourself at original medieval 14th century castle ruins and  "Meitu Island", where Stone and Bronze Age, as well as the Iron Age buildings can be found. They have been made as ideal reconstructions according to the results of archeological research throughout Latvia.
