Development of carpentry craft in Latvia

The "Latvijas Skolas soma" project has approved the educational lesson "Development of the Woodworking Trade/Craft in Latvia," where students will explore the Woodcraft Museum's exhibition and learn about the specifics of the woodworking trade. Students will gain an understanding of the development of woodworking in Latvia from the Stone and Iron Ages to the present day, and they will also have the opportunity to see how various machines operate in real life.

The museum is designed as a historical workshop, where many of the instruments are on display. In the museum exhibition, you can see woodworking tools such as transmission engines, kerosene and diesel engines, band saws, circular saws, planers, milling cutters, lathes, sharpening tools, drills, axes, and more.

The museum is located in Vienkoči Park, which also serves as an outdoor extension of the museum, allowing visitors to explore not only woodcraft but also the history and nature of the area.

At the end of the lesson, students will use various woodworking tools to gain hands-on experience by crafting their own traditional toy or musical instrument—a dulcimer. They will also learn about the different names it has been called and the materials it was made from in ancient times.

The lesson must be booked in advance! Call or write to find out the available dates and other options: info@vienkoci.lv or phone: 29329065.

We divide large groups of students into 2 or 3 smaller groups. Admission is free for the teacher accompanying the class.
